Sen. Campbell Applauds Hazlewood Decision Upholding Tuition Benefits for Texas Veterans by Fifth Circuit

AUSTIN– State Senator Donna Campbell released the following statement upon hearing of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal’s reversal of the district court and in favor of the Texas residency requirement for veterans to receive benefits under the Hazlewood Act.

“Today I celebrate with Texas veterans the court’s decision to uphold the constitutionality of tuition benefits guaranteed by the Hazlewood Act. Hazlewood has helped Texas veterans attend college, gain employment, and support their families. It promotes higher education, eases veterans’ transitions into the civilian community, and contributes to a strong workforce. As Texans, these are excellent justifications to continue supporting the Hazlewood Act, and I look forward to working in the Legislature to further protect these benefits for our veterans.”
