AUSTIN – Today the Senate passed one of State Senator Donna Campbell’s top priorities, Senate Bill 457, to provide $100 million in facilities funding for public schools, including $50 million for charter schools facilities.
“I am proud of the Texas Senate for passing SB 457 and for Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s leadership on this important issue. Today marks an historic day for public school students across Texas. For the first time since charter schools were introduced in the state, the Legislature has made a commitment to provide facility funding for public charter schools. This funding is essential to help relieve the 140,000 Texas children currently stuck on waiting lists due to lack of classroom space at high-quality charter schools. The value of an education is too important – to the child, their family, and the state – to leave these students waiting in limbo.”
