Senator Campbell Applauds Federal Judge’s Ruling Against President Obama’s Controversial School Bathroom Policy

AUSTIN– State Senator Donna Campbell issued a statement today following U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor’s decision to block President Obama’s public school bathroom directive that threatened to withhold federal funds from schools that didn’t provide ‘equal access to student facilities based on gender identity.’

“Parents can breathe a sigh of relief on the first day of school knowing that the Obama Administration’s overreaching bathroom policy, which would have forced Texas schools to allow boys into girls bathrooms, has been declared unlawful. Public school bathrooms and locker rooms should be safe spaces, not social experiments that leave children vulnerable without privacy or dignity. Changing existing school policies to force female students to share facilities with male students clearly creates an unsafe environment that disrupts learning and goes against the will of parents, students, and educators. Judge Reed O’Connor’s ruling today marks a victory for common sense and the safety of Texas children.”
