Senator Campbell Recognizes Schertz Student Alexander Gill as TASSP Winner

SAN ANTONIO, TX – State Senator Donna Campbell announced Alexander Gill will be the recipient of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) from Senate District 25, with a formal presentation ceremony in front of family and friends Friday at her San Antonio district office.

“Alexander Gill is an outstanding young man who exemplifies the virtues of those who serve our nation and strive to be the best that they can be. Among a distinguished field of applicants, Alex’s proven work ethic, dedication to his studies, and passion for community service made him the strongest candidate for this award. I wish Alex the best as he goes on to pursue his interests and serve our great state and nation.”

A graduate of Randolph Air Force Base High School, Alex has been involved with the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, and served as class vice-president. Additionally, Alex earned the rank of Eagle Scout, participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a counselor for special needs children at a Christian summer adventure camp.

A native Texan, Alex is following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, who were both career Army officers, as well as his great-grandfather, who was a career Naval officer and served during World War II. Alex will join the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets in the Fall of 2016.

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program was created by the 81st Legislature to encourage students to participate in ROTC programs and to enter a branch of the armed forces. Each state senator is allowed to nominate one recipient from their district.
