AUSTIN – State Senator Donna Campbell was honored with the top legislative award from one of the state’s largest pro-life groups for her success in authoring and passing pro-life legislation during the 85th Legislature.
The Courageous Defense of Life Award was presented to Dr. Donna Campbell, a practicing emergency room physician, at the Texas Alliance for Life annual benefit dinner on Thursday.
“Texans value life and our laws promote a culture of life,” said Senator Campbell. “Every innocent life is precious and we have an obligation as lawmakers to stand up and speak out for our tiniest and most vulnerable Texans. Every day that I wake up is a day in which I ask God to help me do everything in my power to reduce the tragic number of abortions.”
Senator Campbell was recognized for championing three pro-life bills during the 85th Legislature with two of them ultimately passing into state law. Senate Bill 8, which she co- authored with Sen. Charles Schwertner, ends dismemberment abortions, adds requirements for the disposition of fetal tissue remains, and bans the sale or donation of baby parts from abortions.
She also sponsored House Bill 13, which Governor Abbott signed into law during the special session and requires facilities that treat complications from abortions to report them to state health authorities in a timely manner.
This is the third time that Sen. Campbell has received the Courageous Defense of Life Award for her work in the Legislature. Last week, Senator Campbell was also recognized with a perfect score for her pro-life record by Texas Right to Life.
